1. Galvanized sheet
Galvanized sheet should be the most common welding material. The gasification temperature of zinc is far lower than the melting point of steel, so it is easier to shape and weld during welding. Of course, because of this, galvanized sheet will also have defects during welding. As the zinc continuously evaporates, the steam generated will enter the weld to form pores or undercuts. Suitable for laser welding.
2. Stainless steel
We often hear of stainless steel materials. Welding materials generally include austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, and martensitic stainless steel.
1. Austenitic stainless steel
Austenitic stainless steel has better welding performance, small thermal conductivity but high absorption rate. When it is used in laser welding, the welding speed is fast and the heat input is small. Austenitic stainless steel is more used in Cr Ni series stainless steel welding operations, and laser welding is more used to weld austenitic stainless steel, effectively avoiding its deformation and residual.
2. Ferritic stainless steel
The advantages of ferritic stainless steel are its super toughness and good ductility. In the welding process, the impact is minimal. For example, austenite and martensite may crack during laser welding, but ferrite effectively reduces this possibility.
3. Martensitic stainless steel
Martensitic stainless steel may be strange to everyone, because its performance is far inferior to that of austenitic stainless steel and ferritic stainless steel. Cold cracking often occurs when martensitic stainless steel is used for welding, and the welding effect is not ideal. Some welding projects with lower requirements and costs are occasionally used, and the frequency of use is not high.
3. Alloy steel
Alloy steel is also prone to cold cracks during welding, but its advantage is that it can be directly welded at room temperature, and its hardness is high. For some applications with strict hardness requirements, alloy steel welding is a good choice. For alloy steel welding, laser welding is mostly used. Some automobile transmissions, even the engine parts of aircraft, will be used to weld alloy steel.
